Windows Quick Install
This Quick Install document will guide you through a quick initial setup of AutoSender.
- IMPORTANT NOTE
This manual assumes:
- You are installing AutoSender in an environment that meets the system requirements, i.e. a FileMaker Server 13 (or 9, 10, 11, 12) with XML publishing active or FileMaker Server 13 (or 9 Advanced, 10 Advanced, 11 Advanced, 12 Advanced) with ODBC/JDBC sharing active
- You are sufficiently familiar with the setup of FileMaker Server.
For a more complete and detailed look at how to install and configure AutoSender, please refer to the ‘AutoSender Setup’ document.
For information on how to use AutoSender in your own solutions, refer to the ‘How to Integrate’ document.
Run the installer
Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions. The default install location is
C:\Program Files\myFMbutler\myFMbutler AutoSender 3
A shortcut to this folder will be placed on your desktop.
If you already purchased the product, copy the license.txt and license.sign files to
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\myFMbutler\Preferences first.
Without a valid license, AutoSender will run in demo mode, and add a fixed myFMbutler demo message to both the subject and the footer of the mail message.
At the end of the Installation process open the ‘myFMbutler AutoSender Config’ application (in
C:\Program files\myFMbutler\AutoSender 3\).
Configure your mail sources
Configure the example file you want to use, usually this is MailExample_jdbc.
Configure the example file you want to use, usually this is MailExample_xml.
- Connection info
If you are installing AutoSender on the FileMaker Server machine itself, you can accept the default values in the ‘Connection Info’ tab. Otherwise, enter the DNS name or IP address of your server.
- SMTP server info
Click the ‘SMTP server’ tab to enter the SMTP server information for the mail sources you wish to try.
Choose ‘Test SMTP Settings’, and you should get a message ‘Connection tested successfully’. If you don’t, please refer to the troubleshooting information.
Make sure to ‘Save Changes’ once you have finished. You don’t need to quit the application now, as we will be returning here later.
Enable XML publishing or JDBC sharing on your FileMaker Server
For JDBC Enable ODBC/JDBC sharing on your server. Refer to your FileMaker Server help for more information on how to do this.
For XML Enable XML publishing on your server. Refer to your FileMaker Server help for more information on how to do this.
Bring the FileMaker files online
Put the file MailExample_jdbc.fp7 online on the server (it is located in
Files\myFMbutler\myFMbutler AutoSender 2\Example files\For FileMaker Server Advanced
Put the file MailExample_xml.fp7 online on the server (it is located in
Files\myFMbutler\myFMbutler AutoSender 2\Example files\For FileMaker Server (XML)
Activate the mail sources
Return to the AutoSender Configuration application, then check the ‘Active’ checkbox to enable mail checking for that mail source.
You can access logging information from the Preferences window of the AutoSender Config application. The service will also run automatically after a restart, without the need for a user to be logged in.
Open the Mail Example
Open the MailExample file on the server from a client machine.
Create a mail message
In the ‘from’ and ‘to’ address fields, type a valid mail address.
Click the ‘Send’ button. Within 10 seconds, you should see in the feedback field that mail has been sent.
If there is a problem sending the message, AutoSender will write more information in the log file. From the ’Preferences’ tab in the AutoSender Config application, you can click ‘Show logs’ to navigate to this location. Normally, the log files will be opened in Console.
